Brief History of Organization:

 

The establishment of the Institution of 'Beit Atfal Assumoud', on 12 August 1976, was initiated by the Secretariat of the General Union Of Palestinian Women, as well as Lebanese and Palestinian individuals, to serve as a substitute home for the children of Tal El-Zaatar camp, after the massacres left them orphaned.

 

Objectives

 
  • To provide monthly financial support, through a special sponsorship program for families who lost their primary income provider and to help the mothers and guardians with the responsibility of raising their children.

  • To provide cultural, recreational, educational and health services for those children and their families, through our centers in the camps.

  • To contribute to the developing of the economic and professional capacities and potentials of the families, through special Programs directed at the women and youth.

  • To focus on preserving the Palestinian identity of our people, by reviving our culture and heritage and transmitting them to the new generation.

 
 

Activities

 
Educational, Cultural and recreational activities
Lectures on different social, health, environmental, and national subjects.
  • Poetry reading

  • Editing “Assanable” magazine

  • Remedial lessons, given by volunteers

  • Theater visits and picnics

  • Library services

  • Scouts activities

  • Ramadan annual dinners (iftars) were organized in all centers, totaling 19 dinners, in which the mothers also participated.

  • Some children were invited to special dinners outside the camps, by some local organizations and individuals.

  • Two summer camps for the youth were organized. One in the North funded and attended by the Japanese. The other in the South funded and attended by young participants from Germany

 
 

Programs

 
Literacy program

It includes among others, alphabetization Programs for children and adults, computer literacy Programs including a computer training program for girls & boys where around 60 students benefit each year.

They include educational and cultural activities, besides remedial lessons.

Family Happiness Project

Sponsorship: Under this program, financial assistance provided by sponsors from different countries, enabled us to offer financial aid and social care for nearly 1300 children from about 750 Families.

 

Scholarship: 44 students benefited from this program at the secondary and university levels in addition to vocational training.

 

Vocational Training:

A series of vocational training courses were organized in the camps of Bourj El-Shamali and Rashidieyh, in the following professions:

  • Sanitary installation

  • Plaster decorative works

  • Aluminum works

  • Hair-cutting for men
